Mill Springs Battlefield Visitor Center and Museum
The Mill Springs Battlefield Visitor Center and Museum is a great place to explore the history of the Civil War. The Battle of Mill Springs began in the early morning of January 19, 1862, when recently reinforced Union forces faced a surprise Confederate attack.
The field was muddled with smoke and rain, but the Union forces were able to drive the Confederates back to their camp in Beech Grove. The cannon fire continued into the night, and the Confederates eventually dispersed. The battle, which was the Union's first major victory in the Western Theater, bolstered Union morale and solidified Kentucky's commitment to the Union cause.

The visitor center has a museum and antebellum mansion built by Joseph Bryan in 1848. Joseph Bryan, a descendant of Daniel Boone, gave supplies to the Confederate forces during the Civil War and was even able to escape to Canada to escape arrest. Today, the mansion is a living history museum.
